What types of fin recordings are es?
Every day we receive questions such as "How can I tell which fin my SUP/kayak has? What types of fins are es and which adapters are e-Fin when purchasing a JayKay e-Fin ?" Since this topic cannot be explained quickly and easily, we have written this article for you.
As nice es is to be able to choose a SUP from an ever-increasing variety and number of suppliers, this makes it more difficult to e-Fin a suitable adapter for the e-Fin . Added to this is the fact that es are es uniform standards for fin mounts. Every manufacturer can design and produce their own fin shape and mount. Unfortunately, manufacturers es always stick to just ONE fin mount. In some cases, es es slight variations in the same fin mount es on the year of manufacture.
The difficulty for us was to create a suitable adapter for each type of recording with its variations and to be able to explain this to the customer in a way they could understand.
But first, the good news: Es three fin mounts that are used by most manufacturers. You can find the right adapters for these mounts in our shop:
SLIDE-IN / PLUG-IN FIN
The slide-in fin mount is characterized by a safety pin suspended on a cord. After mounting the fin, this pin is always pushed into the slot on the side for safety purposes.

This fin mount is found on approximately 75% of all SUPs. Among others, it is used by manufacturers such as Aqua Marina, Ocean Fit, DURAERO, Aukai, Naish, Aztron, and many "no name" brands.
It is important to note the minimum dimensions of the fin box: length 1800 mm x width 18 mm.
The ITIWIT SUP range from Decathlon, for example, increasingly offers SUPs with shortened slide-in mounts. You can see the difference in the following photos:

US BOX
In addition to slide-in mounts, US Box are also among the most common fin mounts, especially on high-quality SUPs. You can find them on boards from manufacturers such as Starboard (standard series), Naish, JP Australia, Cruis Air, Indiana SUP, Aztron, and Bluefiin.

The US box fins are inserted into a rail from below using a groove nut and then screwed in place from below using an external screw.
The minimum dimensions of the fin box are: length 208 mm x width 9 mm.
es are also exceptions es some manufacturers with regard to this fin mounting:
starboard
The Starboard Deluxe series has a slightly offset nut, which requires a customized US box adapter from us.
Aztron
Aztron still has a US box mount for models from 2020 onwards, but the screw is located on the opposite side. es a specially adapted adapter, which should be communicated to the JayKay team during the ordering process.
US softbox / split fin box
The US softbox es a split fin box mount. es is a JayKay adapter available for this, we do not recommend it due to slight radio interruptions.
SMART LOCK
The Smartlock mount is still relatively new but is becoming increasingly popular. Brands such as Bluefin (Cruise model), iRocker SUP, and JOBE use this mount.

Instead of using a locking pin or screw as in previous systems, this system uses a locking hook. The fin is inserted into the box and then secured with a hook located on the fin box. This has the advantage that the fin can be mounted quickly and without tools.
The minimum dimensions of the fin box are: length 165 mm x width 9 mm.
The following fin mounts are particularly common on surfboards. As we have reached our mechanical limits here, we are unfortunately unable to offer JayKay adapters at this time:
FCS II
The manufacturer FCS (short for Fin Control System) is the world's leading manufacturer of fins for surfboards. In 1995, FCS developed and patented the FCS fin system, which has gained a huge market share in the surfing sector over the years.
The advantage of the FCS II fin system is that es require es screws or locking pins. The system consists of two round fin plugs into which the two "nose pieces" of a fin are inserted and clicked into place by applying pressure.
FCS II (Connect)
In this system, the fin box is constructed in the same way as a US box, but this system is mainly used on hardboards, where the fin mount is embedded directly into the board. This mount also has the advantage that the fin only needs to be inserted and pressed down.
