Petition calling for the authorization of Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEV) in road traffic
Requirements and problems
The topic of the authorization of the so called Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEV) will be addressed more intensively at the end of this year. The community was expecting an authorization for the use in road traffic already this year. The decision has now been postboned to the beginning of 2019, however, the authorization is now subject to even stricter guidelines. According to these guidelines, the vehicles must be equipped with a handlebar, lights, brakes and direction indicators. This would lead to the exclusion of many vehicle categories like electric skateboards, segways with knee control, hoverboards and monowheels.
Since the mentioned PLEVs can not comply with these requirements, a petition has been launched to make the German Bundestag include PLEVs and to claim their legal classification as electric bicycle (pedelecs).
Panel on December 13, 2018 at the BMVI
On December 13, a round of discussion will take place at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure in Berlin (BMVI), where we will participate together with other manufacturers from the PLEV scene to dicuss the advantage and possible requirements for an authorization in road traffic. After that we plan on driving around together to demonstrate peacefully. The planned tour is 10 km long, starting at the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure, past the Brandenburger Tor, the central square Großer Stern and from Alt-Moabit back to the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. Once arrived there, we want to set up an information stand to inform guests and participants about the current facts and our visit.
We want to invite you to take part in the „demonstration tour“ to attract as much media attention as possible which would help the chances of success of the authorization. The meeting point is the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure in Berlin at 12 noon.
